Research is essential to finding a solution to sustainable public interest journalism in Australia.

It’s important we know the facts about public interest journalism and the effects of its decline. PIJI aims to establish what’s happening and why and what can be done. Our research is structured around three key themes of inquiry:

  1. the assessment of public interest journalism’s diversity in Australia;
  2. measures of the Australian public’s support for, and value of, public interest journalism; and,
  3. understanding investment and financial sustainability for public interest journalism.

All our research work is guided by our expert research panel. The panel’s specialties include journalism practice, the civic importance of the media, law, technology, business and economics.
