Gary Dickson was appointed the Operations Administrator in August 2019 after previously conducting research for PIJI on the state of the industry and deficits in coverage of local government.
Prior to PIJI he has worked at the Melbourne Social Equity Institute and the Centre for Advancing Journalism, University of Melbourne. He currently works at the School of Media, Film and Journalism at Monash University, where he teaches media law and ethics and administers the Media, Society and the Politics of Change research theme.
As a researcher he has also worked for Index on Censorship magazine, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne and Our Watch.
He holds a Master of Journalism from the University of Melbourne and is currently completing a Master of Arts at Monash University. His research looks at freedom of the press advocacy by the Australian Journalists’ Association during the early 20th century. He is a member of the editorial board of Eras, a peer-reviewed postgraduate history journal.
