PIJI marks World News Day

What is the state of public interest journalism in Australia? This World News Day provides the perfect opportunity to find out.

Today is World News Day. Organised by the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) and WAN- IFRA’s World Editors Forum (WEF), the day is dedicated to showing how powerful fact-based journalism is.

PIJI believes that public interest journalism is a public good; it is the accurate, reliable news and journalism at the heart of public discussion, diversity of voice, open justice, accountability and informed decision-making. It educates, inspires and brings together communities. Through our research, we aim to move Australia towards achieving our vision of a sustainable and diverse public interest journalism landscape.

To celebrate World News Day, we’re highlighting the importance of fact-based public interest journalism in Australia – how we work to keep track of it.
