This month’s report sees a rise in outlets listed on the Index, as well as intriguing sampling from King Island.

The August edition of the Australian News Data Report reveals an increase in the number of outlets listed in the Australian News Index.

There were 1213 outlets listed on the Australian News Index as of 31 August 2023, an increase of three since the July reporting period. The majority of outlets listed are local print outlets, followed by local radio.

Two new outlets were reported as having opened over the month: Capital Brief, and the Centralian Today.

Meanwhile, the Shoalhaven & Nowra News was recorded as having closed in August.

13 other changes were made to outlet records, the majority of which are market changes that occurred in previous months.

This month’s report also includes the results of news sampling activity undertaken for the King Island Council, revealing a high level of public interest journalism coverage focussed on state government, community individuals and local sport.
