One addition and one removal: November ANDR

January 15, 2024

Our latest news sample finds generally low levels of public interest journalism at a well-covered metropolitan location.

One new publication was added to the Australian News Index in November and one outlet was removed from the database, according to the latest release of the Australian News Data Report.

The new publication, the Mt Gambier Times, was added to the database after a rebrand. Its content is now deemed to cover public interest journalism according to PIJI’s definition, meaning it meets the requirements to be listed in the Index.

It’s just one of 1213 print, digital, radio and television news outlets listed on the Australian News Index as at 30 November 2023.

Meanwhile, the Glenlyon District News was removed from the database after PIJI was unable to confirm that it is operated independently of government.

The November edition of the Australian News Data Report also includes our sampling report of inner south Melbourne, which we found to have generally low levels of public interest journalism despite being well covered by a variety of news media outlets, at local and metropolitan scale.
