The Australian News Data Report recorded three market changes in June: the closures of Channel 10 in the Mildura broadcast licence area and the Foster Mirror in the town of Foster in South Gippsland Shire, and the launch of local newspaper and website, Camden Haven News of the Area in in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales. Combined with eight record changes, this takes the total number of news outlets in Australia to 1,221 across digital, radio and television formats.

The June 2024 report also includes the latest quarterly news market data, showing 340 contractions and 184 expansions since 1 January 2019, translating to 156 fewer news outlets as a net effect.

The June 2024 sample of local news in East Gippsland Shire and Wellington Shire found very high levels of public interest journalism production across all local outlets.Click here to read the full report.
