The Public Interest Journalism Initiative (PIJI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Cramb as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Cramb brings a wealth of experience in media and public policy to this crucial role.
His appointment comes at a pivotal time for public interest journalism in Australia, as the sector continues to navigate significant challenges and opportunities.
PIJI Chair, Professor Allan Fels AO, welcomed the appointment:
“Alex brings extensive experience in politics, advocacy, corporate communications and journalism to the role as well as a strong commitment to the sustainability of public interest journalism,” Professor Fels said.
“We are extremely pleased to have acquired the services of such an excellent person.”
Mr Cramb expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying: “I am delighted to join PIJI at this critical juncture. At a time when journalists and the media face unprecedented challenges — from shrinking revenues to digital disruption — PIJI’s mission to support vital public interest reporting is more important than ever.
“Public interest journalism is essential to our democracy, and I look forward to working with the team to advocate for its long-term viability and impact.”
The PIJI Chair also welcomed the Federal Government’s recent commitment of $150 million to support public interest journalism.
“We look forward to a busy year tackling a range of policy issues and the ongoing challenge of the sustainability of public interest remains. Alex will make a difference to this,” Professor Fels said.
