The Australian News Data Report recorded eight market changes in July. This included the launch of five new outlets: a national-scale prison newspaper About Time, The Douglas Gazette, and three outlets operated by Times News Group – The Ballina Times, Byron Coast Times, and Tweed Coast Times. Lismore City News published its final addition this month, and a restructure of Pedestrian Media saw the closure of VICE Australia. Sixteen changes were made to outlet records, including to The Local Paper, which is further detailed with a timeline of events in this report.
As of July, the Australian News Index lists 1,233 print, digital, radio and television news outlets.
A July sample of Tasmania’s North West, West Coast and Central Highlands found that most stories published were local in scale, with some additional national and state-scale coverage from The Advocate, and regional focus at Pulse Tasmania.
