New data set added to Australian News Index

December 22, 2023

The new data illustrates relationships between industry associations or peak bodies and news outlets/entities.

The Australian News Index now contains data on industry membership associations.

The new data release is detailed in the October edition of the Australian News Data Report and shows relationships between news outlets and/or entities and the associations that they are members of.

The October report shows that as at 31 October 2023 there were 1214 outlets listed on the Australian News Index, unchanged from the previous month. Four outlets were listed as closed, and one market change – the end of the print edition of the North Sydney Sun – was observed.

This month’s report includes sampling of news production in North West Queensland. Overall, our researchers found that most outlets produced high to very high levels of public interest journalism in the region, across government, community and courts and crime news.
