In April 2025, PIJI sent out a survey to several major Australian political parties and independents to gain insight into their views on public interest journalism issues ahead of the federal election.

Those who responded revealed their thoughts on the vital role public interest journalism has to play in a functional democracy, the serious threats facing the sector, and what needs to be done to support the future of Australian news media.

Click the below links to see survey responses:

  • Australian Labor Party
  • Australian Greens
  • Andrew Wilkie
  • Monique Ryan
  • Tammy Tyrrell

A media release is also available.
