PIJI’s latest data report reveals further closures within Australia’s news landscape.

As of 31 July 2023, there were 1210 print, digital, radio and television news outlets listed on the Australian News Index, across community, local, state/territory and national coverage areas.

Over the month two outlets were reported as being closed: the Hawkesbury Gazette in New South Wales, and *PS Port Phillip.

A further eight changes were recorded after occurring in previous months and being verified in July, including five other outlet closures.

As well, one new news entity was added to the database this month.

The July data report also features a sample of local public interest news coverage in Darwin and surrounds, revealing a market covered by a mix of television, radio, print and digital newsrooms.
