Before joining PIJI, Simon spent ten years working on online free expression, privacy and safety, first at the Global Network Initiative and the Business and Human Rights Group in the United States, and later at digital platforms including Tumblr, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Prior to that he was a legal and policy advisor to the traditional owners of the Tiwi Islands from 2011 to 2013, and a lawyer at Minter Ellison from 2009-2011.
